Obituary of Emerson M. Borgal
Emerson M. Borgal passed away peacefully, in his 95th year, on Friday, March 5, 2004 with Laura, his loving wife of seventy-two years at his side, at the McKenzie Towne Care Centre
Em and Laura met in high school, went to Normal School in 1929, married in 1931, and devoted the rest of their lives to education and their family. They earned their BEDs in 1938 after seven years of summer school at the U of A. Em was a navigator instructor in the R.C.A.F. in WWII, and earned his MEd at U of Chicago in 1948. He taught at Sunalta, Western Canada High, and at Branton Junior High where he was principal until his retirement in 1972. A long time member of the Glencoe Club and the Earl Grey Golf Club, sports and games were a passion for Em, from football, tennis and mountain climbing to handball, curling, golf, swimming, cribbage, and bridge. He was an enviable role model who greatly influenced the lives of his children and grandchildren, and has left his whole family with many warm and wonderful memories.
Emerson is survived by daughters, Barbara of Ottawa, ON, Linda of Calgary; grandchildren, David (Anna) Moore, Carleen (Ron) Ridley, Janice (Hakan Tongul) Moore, Roger (Susan) Holm, Bob Holm, and Debbie (Garet) Laub; as well as great grandchildren, Aaron and Lauren King-Moore, Brayden and Kendra Ridley, Kayra Moore-Tongul, Gabrielle and Britanney Laub, and Paris Holm. He was predeceased by his only son David, and siblings Everett, Clarence, Muriel (Clarke) and Elmer.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church (1121 – 14th Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
