Obituary of van Herk

Miranda van Herk of Calgary, beloved wife of Rhys Courtman and daughter of Mirja and Andrew van Herk, passed away suddenly in Rhys’ arms on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at the age of 20 years. Miranda was a loving, joyful and intelligent young woman who brought happiness to all who knew her. She had already found the love of her life, Rhys, and she was looking forward to a career in Psychology, working to help children when she completed her studies at the University of Calgary. She was very close to her family and knew how to appreciate all the special moments in life. She faced adversity with endless courage and spirit. “ego dilecto meo et dilectus meus” Besides her loving husband and parents, Miranda is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Doug Thompson of Peace River, AB; brother Jesse van Herk of Edmonton and grandparents, Kaino and Helka Nikkanen and Willem and Marretje van Herk, all of Edmonton. She is also survived by Rhys’ parents, Ray and Madeline Courtman of Beiseker, AB and his sister Mandy Courtman; her beloved nieces, Trinity and Aurora; and her cousins, Andy, Diane, Melinda, Michael, Karen, Michelle, Kathryn, Rebecca, Terra, Kaeli, Rachael, and Joshua. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 10:00 A.M.
