Obituary of Harry Zuurbier
Harry Zuurbier, beloved husband of Mrs. Catherine Henley of Calgary, passed away at his home as a result of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease),on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the age of 70 years.
Born on January 9, 1934 in Ursem, Holland, Harry immigrated to Canada at the age of nineteen, settling in Brocket where he worked. He then studied and graduated from St. Michaels High School of Pincher Creek in 1954. During his more than thirty years as a dedicated school teacher, he taught at Holy Trinity, Assumption, St. Cecilia’s, Bishop Carroll, and Bishop Grandon schools. Upon retirement, Harry showed equal dedication in working as a Mediator for the Calgary Police Service, the Better Business Bureau and privately for a number of families. He also served as a member of the Seniors Advisory Committee for the Alberta Government.
He is survived by his wife Catherine and their sons, Peter and Jacob; as well as his former wife, Marial Piotrowski and their children, Maria, Paul, Ted, Dianne, and Donna; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Grace.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
