Obituary of Van Tol

After a courageous struggle with cancer which she faced as a “challenge and adventure,” Elaine Van Tol passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the age of 53 years. Elaine was born on June 8, 1950 and was raised on the farm in Pincher Creek, AB. While in school she met her future husband, Richard Van Tol. They married in 1971. After a couple of moves following Richard’s career path they settled in Pincher Creek, where their children, Tony and Paula, filled their home. In 1989 the family moved to Cochrane where Elaine continued in her role of homemaker and mother. Her family was always appreciative of her and with their encouragement, she became a real estate agent. She worked with Royal LePage Cochrane where her fellow employees became valued friends. Elaine thrived on the challenges of her new-found job. She also loved to curl, bowl, and to keep in touch with both friends and family via her phone. Elaine had a passion for flowers of any kind and in her spare time, she liked to sew, knit and crochet. She was always an optimist and friends and family will always treasure memories of her quick smile, her laughter, and her gentle nudge to find the best in any situation. Elaine is survived by her husband Richard, and their children Tony and Paula (Trevor). She is also survived by her sisters Diana (Roy) Reed and Lynda (Ken) Cook; mother-in-law Vi Van Tol; sister-in-law Roselyn Jack; brother-in-law Allan (Jenny) Trodden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
