Obituary of Edward Wolfchild

It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of Ed Wolfchild, Sr. of Siksika Nation, on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the age of 84 years. Ed attended Crowfoot School until about the age of sixteen years, which is when he went to work in the coal mines. After he got married, Ed became a farmer and a hockey player. He was a member of the 22nd Battery Division of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves. Ed was an avid patron of the Calgary Stampede as his grandfather, Tom Turned Up Nose was one of the first teepee owners who set up camp at the Indian Village. He was also a Cowboy, as he was regularly involved with the annual roundups on the Reserve. Ed was a respected member of the Horn Society and the Prairie Chicken Society. Ed – Grandpa – as he was known to many, was a very humble and gentle man. He had a kind and giving heart and would give his last dollar to anyone who asked. Ed is remembered by three sons, Ed, Jr. (Bernice), Robert, and Clarence (Jackie Duck Chief); twenty-eight grandchildren; sixty-two great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews, the children of his late brother George Leather: Georgina, Teresa, Bernice, Clement, Joseph, and Gerald. Ed is also survived by his other nieces, Mary Lillian Cutter and Marina Yellow Fly; his adopted daughters Rosemary Red Gun and Marie Melting Tallow. Ed was predeceased by his wife Clara, four sons, five daughters and three grandchildren. Wake Services will be held at the home of Edward Wolfchild, Jr. on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at 6:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation), on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Ian GagnÚ, Presider.
