Obituary of Kathleen Mary Bernadette Hval
Kathleen Mary Bernadette Hval passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the age of 87 years.
Kathleen was born in Belfast, Ireland to Michael and Letitia O’Reilly. During her teenage years she helped with the family grocery business. In 1945 she met a young Canadian soldier, Harold Hval, and became a war bride. She immigrated to Canada in 1947. The bustling streets of Belfast were replaced by the open prairie sky of Brooks, AB. Her only son, Brian, was born there in 1948. The family then moved to Calgary. Kathleen helped build the family home and enjoyed the beauty of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Bow River and her summer garden. In 2003 she joined her son in Saint John, NB and resided at McKellar’s Special Care Home. Kathleen enjoyed a beautiful Maritime summer and was an avid fan of the local Irish musicians. Family and friends will miss her kindness and generous spirit.
Kathleen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kathleen; and a sister Patricia. She is also survived by her loving companion Ginger (her cat) as well as several nephews and nieces. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1995; sisters Nora, Bridget, Jean and Letitia and a brother Sean.
