Obituary
Obituary of Shirley Margaret Ervin
It is with profound sadness that the family of Shirley (Jeep) Ervin (nee Cummings) announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jeep was born June 18, 1932 in Prince Albert, SK, the fourth child of seven born to Charles and Catherine Cummings. She attended Prince Albert Collegiate Institute, then business college, and after graduation she worked for the firm of Diefenbaker, Cullenare and Hall. She married Vern Ervin in 1952 and they raised their family in Prince Albert until 1964 when the family transferred with Sask Power Corp. to Saskatoon, SK. She successfully managed her own Vanda Beauty Counselor distributorship, traveling central and western Saskatchewan, selling and demonstrating her products, and making friends with people in dozens of towns and communities.
She and Vern retired early and spent fifteen wonderful, happy winters in Alameda Isles, FL, square dancing, playing cards and enjoying the sunsets. Jeep had a green thumb, loved flowers and gardening, and always had a beautiful yard. She loved playing cards and bingo and was an avid bridge player all her life. In May 1995, she and Vern moved to Calgary to be with their children who had all relocated from Saskatoon. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Jeff, spending countless hours in hospitals and nursing homes until his death in May of this year. She became an active member of the Newcomers Club, playing bridge and socializing. Jeep was a warm, outgoing and upbeat person who made friends for life and nurtured and cherished those friendships. She loved a good joke and had a wonderful sense of humour, despite the numerous challenges life threw at her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jeep leaves behind her loving children and grandchildren whom she adored, daughter Jill (Tom) Hunter, son Hugh (his children Michael and Jacquelyn), and son Greg (Shelley and son Mitchell), all of Calgary; a brother Bob Cummings of Minneapolis, MN; a sister Gail Cummings of Prince Albert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Vern, and sons Glen and Jeff.
