Obituary
Obituary of Ivy-Ena Lefthand
It is with great sadness the Creator peacefully called home his beloved angel Ivy Lefthand on Thursday, November 27, 2003. She is blessed by her loving children: Ferlin, Clayton (Retha), Kevin (Kathy), Georgina, Julie (Darcey); special grandchildren: Lisa (Steed), and Ava; adopted children: Keith (Karen), Leroy (Georgina), Duane Chocan; and an adopted sister Margaret Auger of Edmonton. She will be preciously cherished by her twenty-six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
After many years of diverse challenges, Ivy is now at peace with her loving husband Johnny Poucette (July 1994), her son Mitchel Lefthand (October 2001), and her great-granddaughter Gabrielle Young (November 1998). She has now journeyed into the eternal life to join her parents, Thomas and Sophie Lefthand; three brothers; and a sister Violet Poucette. She will be sadly remembered by her paternal and maternal relatives and friends, all from Morley and Eden Valley.
Ivy had a passion for “life”. She wanted everyone to live life to the fullest and to live in peace with each other. She dedicated and devoted her life to her family, especially the young children. Together with her husband they “adopted” many people in the community and comforted them under their wings. Ivy grew up and persevered through her residential schooling. After completing her education she served her community as a Teacher’s Aide and also as a nurse at the Old Morley Hospital. She took pride in her traditional culture through arts and crafts, bead-working and music. She enjoyed traveling to pow-wows, rodeos and hockey and she took pride in watching her children and grandchildren participating in these events as well as other sports. Ivy is very respected and honoured for her kindness and consideration to those who knew her. She achieved her accomplishments in life, raising all her children with the moral teachings of our traditional values and beliefs. Despite her small physical stature, she was large in heart and courage.
The family would like to thank Dr. Louise Feddema and nurses, Joyce Ball, Roseanne and Kara, the staff at the Canmore Hospital, and all who gave their time to care for and comfort her during her medical hardships. The family apologizes for those we forgot to mention, for there were many special people in her life.
Wake Services will be held at her home (the Lefthand residence) on Sunday, November 30, 2003 and Monday, December 1, 2003.
