Obituary of Darell Bruce BRADSHAW

August 4, 1922 – May 14, 2017 Darell answered to three names; his parents named him Darell Bruce, but he was known by friends and family as Dee. When he joined the R.C.A.F. in 1939 during World War II his air force buddies started calling him Brad, and that was the name he was known by for most of his adult life. Brad was born on the farm at Millerfield, east of Drumheller. Eventually the family moved to East Coulee where Brad attended school and learned to box. At age 17 he became the Alberta Amateur Boxing Champion in his weight class. While Brad was overseas in England serving as an aircraft mechanic the family moved to Rosedale. When Brad returned he began working in the Rosedale Collieries driving an underground Spike Team of ponies. In Rosedale he met Sigrid Peterson and they were married on April 3, 1948. They moved to Calgary in 1952 and in 1959 Brad and Sig opened The Country Boy drive-in. In 1974 they moved to Bragg Creek to an acreage that included an old sawmill and a pond. They became active in the Bragg Creek Artisans. Brad felled trees on the property, planed the wood and created unique, rustic picture frames and numerous other wooden items. Brad enjoyed tending his horses and many winter days were spent playing hockey on the pond with friends. In 1988 Brad and Sig bought a motorhome and for the next 25 years they travelled across Canada, most of the U.S. and Mexico. Brad is lovingly remembered by Sigrid, his wife of 69 years; his three children, Bonnie van Rossum (Carl), Tina Dyer (Bill), Tracy Bradshaw (Sue); his little dog Zippy; brother, Allan Bradshaw (Jennett); sister Lois Palmer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Brad forged many long lasting friendships during his lifetime. His infectious smile and generous nature will be missed by many friends and neighbors. The family invites friends and neighbors to share their memories at an informal drop-in Celebration of Brad’s Life, at Good Companions 50 Plus Club (2609 – 19 Avenue S.W.
