Obituary of Kirk C. RANKINE
August 15, 1935 – Calgary, Alberta
April 28, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Kirk C. Rankine on Friday, April 28th, 2017 after battling a lengthy illness.
Kirk was married to his teenage sweetheart and love of his life Rita for 61 years. Together they raised three children: Tom (Colleen), Rob (Laurie), and Rona (Kevin). He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Ryan (Morgan), Shaun (Stephanie), Kyla, Stephanie (Jason), Cassidy (Kayleigh), Robyn (Sean), Jasmine, Jessica (Brandon), Laura-May, Katie-Lynn and Brett. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Cole, Keegan, Danica, Olivia, Nellie, Noah and Kenzie.
Besides his loving wife and children, Kirk is survived by his brother Ian (Jeanette); his sister-in-law Elaine; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kirk was predeceased by his father Alexander and his mother Agnes; his brothers Alex, Glen and Robin Rankine; his sister Heather McPhedran and brother-in-law Glen McPhedran and nephews Sandy Rankine and Gordon McPhedran.
Kirk was a native Calgarian, residing in Inglewood, Fairview, Maple Ridge, Lake Bonavista and Lake Sundance. He apprenticed as a machinist with CP Rail, transitioning to Sales and Management roles at Canfor and Conmac (Lafarge). Kirk and his son Tom founded South Pro Automotive in 1983, a thriving business recently passed down to his grandchildren. He joined Calgary South Rotary Club in 1988 and enjoyed the charitable nature and comradery of fellow members for many years. He was also a member of Sirocco Golf Club, a passion he enjoyed well into his later years. He and his brothers shared a passion for curling. His favourite family vacations were Hawaii and the cabin they built on Shuswap Lake. Many fond memories were of grandpa and lake time, a legacy that continues with his children and their families. He enjoyed dancing, music, singing, boating, horseshoes and building things, but most of all he loved life and his family. He was a kind, caring and generous husband, father and grandfather and his passing leaves us all with wonderful memories that we will always hold dear to our hearts. We were all so blessed and grateful to have him in our lives.
The family would like to thank the Beverly Care Centre, Lake Midnapore for the wonderful staff and their care for Kirk over the past sixteen months.
