Condolences
We are so sad to learn that Bob has passed away dear Joan. We are in Florida now and remembering all the Monday Nights we used to get together…..as well as all the golf games…..Bob and I had a lot in common….both fromVerdun….both had a bit of a Steamship background….and both liked quiet on the tee when we addressing the golf ball…..and I believe Bob enjoyed his Scotch, as I do. We think of you often. And we miss Bob, a good friend. Love Denise and Bill
I worked closely with Bob from 1985 to 1989 when he retired. He and I spent a lot of time together helping to negotiate the Ernst and Ernst/Thorne Riddell Merger and then, once the merger had been approved, I reported to him in his capacity as Chairman of the firm. I found Bob to be very practical, very fair and very pleasant to deal with, as well as a good advisor and sounding board. My sympathies go out to all members of his family. I know he will be greatly missed.
Gone from my Sight
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength
and I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says: “There, she’s gone!”
Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side;
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her;
and just at the moment when someone at my side says:
“There, she’s gone!”, there are other eyes watching her coming
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout –
“Here she comes!”.
And that is dying.

Nancy, so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. You and your family are in my thoughts as you grieve this huge loss.
My condolences to the family. I worked with Bob for many years both in Montreal and Toronto. Bob was always a true gentleman and a great leader by example. He was always a calming influence during my career. Over the years we traded some great stories about skiing.
Dear Joan, Nancy, David and Glenna,
I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I always enjoyed the times our parents would get together and remember your Dad’s wonderful laugh.
The last time I saw Bob was when Joan you and Bob came to help celebrate Dad’s 80th birthday. It was lovely to visit with you both.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this very sad and difficult time. Love Nancy
Dear Joan, David, Nancy and Glenna,
So sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. I have the fondest of memories of Bob and the role he played helping me be the best I could be. He was a stellar example of someone who represented stability, fairness, consistency, loyalty and professionalism in general.
Joan and David should be aware that my 37 year old son Mike still has David’s bedroom set in his extra bedroom in his basement. We picked that up 30 or so years ago at your home off Bayview just south of 401.
Joan,
Sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. Bob had a lot to do with my highly satisfying career at E&E and successor firms in Montreal. I remember Bob mostly as a practical, wise and respectful senior partner who led the firm into a cohesive, fast growing and highly respected professional firm in Canada where all of us, mostly younger, driven partners, experienced great pride of belonging and fulfillment. Roxane joins me in wishing you and your family our most sincere condolences.
Pierre and Roxane Robitaille
God gave a gift to David, Glenna and Me, the greatest Dad that could ever be. It is an honor to be your daughter.
You will always be in my heart.
All My Love,
Nancy
Bob was one of the people responsible for recruiting me to E&W, as it was called at the time. He was managing partner for several years while I was there and was certainly a significant influence on me. We played some golf together at York Downs and it was always a pleasure. My deepest sympathies to the entire family. I will always remember him fondly.

It was distinctly my pleasure to work alongside Bob over several years (E&E, E&W, TE&W, PMT, KPMG) . Bob was a dear friend and mentor – his counsel was always valued. Conservative, thoughtful and friendly capture my thoughts about Bob. I will always treasure those times we spent together skiing on Sunshine Mountain and Lake Louise, in London England and Mexico City as well as fishing for salmon on the Miramichi River. Marj’s and my hearts go out to Joan and her family as they say goodbye to a dear husband, father, grandparent and friend.

Sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I got to know Bob when he chaired the management board of Ernst & Whinny and Lee & Martin (my firm) merged with Ernst & Whinny in 1985. I was the Maritime representative on the National Committee that Bob chaired. I highly admired and respected Bob. I’m sure he will be missed by many.

Joan, We are so sad to hear of Bob’s passing. You have been such wonderful friends while you wintered here in the Daytona Beach area. We enjoyed all our golfing and socializing times together and even in Toronto with you. We have missed you since you no longer come south and will continue to do so by e-mail and phone. We know that Bob is at peace.
Bob Turnbull was a very caring and helpful leader to all Partners at then Ernst & Whinney.
