Obituary of ANHORN – Eleanor

1942 – 2016 Ellie Anhorn passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the age of 74 with her children and grandchildren gathered together to be near her. Eleanor Gladys Anhorn was the third child born to Emil and Barbara Fischer on August 17, 1942. She was raised on the family farm in Acme, AB. until the family moved to Calgary in her mid-teens. She attended high school at Springvale Academy in Missouri and then in 1961, after graduating, she married Al Anhorn from Medicine Hat, AB. They established their home in Calgary and created and raised their family of three children, Janelle, Darla and Jodi. Ellie was a devoted mother and career woman. She worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for over 20 years rising steadily to the position of senior bank officer. Then, after leaving the bank, she worked for an additional 10 years plus for the Calgary Casino Gaming Commission. After retiring, she enjoyed spending her winters in Yuma, AZ (most often with her cousin Bernice) where her brother & sisters also spent time. During the different seasons of her life Ellie enjoyed many different things such as reading, music, bowling, travel and most especially spending time with her friends and family. She was an extraordinary hostess and an accomplished cook who loved to entertain. Ellie is survived by her children Janelle (Wayne) and Jodi (Kathie), her grandchildren Tyler (Jodi), Jared, Dylan, Robert and Melissa and her great-granddaughters Megan and Emily, her ex-husband Al (Doreen), her brother Leroy, sister-in-law Carol and sister Rita. She was predeceased by her parents Emil and Barbara Fischer, her sister Ruby Hagel and her beloved daughter Darla. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation taking place prior to the Service.
