Obituary of SOTO SAN MARTIN

July 26, 1929 – Santiago, Chile March 6, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta Alvaro Hernan Soto San Martin, age 86, passed away at the South Health Campus, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was born on July 26, 1929 in Santiago, Chile to Alberto Soto and Blanca de las Mercedes San Martin and had 4 siblings, Mario Soto San Martin, Maria Soto San Martin, Haroldo Soto San Martin and Otilia Aguilar. On December 23, 1948, he married Patricia Carmen Soto Gutierrez who he had met at the young age of 14 and he was 17. Together, they had two daughters, Blanca Guerra and Marjorie Craft-Livingston. Alvaro was an architectural designer in Santiago, Chile and then put his welding skills to use when they moved to Mendoza, Argentina in 1976. In 1981, he decided to immigrate to Canada with his wife, Patricia and youngest daughter, Marjorie in order to be closer to his eldest daughter, Blanca and her family. For 31 years in Canada, he lived as a Landed Immigrant until he made the decision to become a Canadian Citizen in 2013. This ultimately became one of the happiest and proudest moments in his life. Alvaro enjoyed life most when he was with his wife of 67 years and his family who he adored. He dedicated his life to taking care of his wife like a baby as she would always say. For 26 years, he drove her to the Jehova Witness Kingdom Hall. Although he did not believe in any religion, he was a great believer in God, or as he would name Him, Jehova. Every family gathering involved home cooked Spanish meals, cumbia or tango music and his favorite Chilean wine (Gato Negro). In Chile, Alvaro was an avid cyclist and also loved to dance. Most may not know this, but in Canada, Alvaro became a huge Calgary Flames fan and always enjoyed watching the games. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Soto; daughters, Blanca Guerra (Jorge Guerra), Marjorie Craft-Livingston (Chris Livingston); 8 grandchildren, Pamela Guerra (Ricky Bascombe), Patricia Mah (Kevin Mah), George Guerra, Abbygale Craft, Tatiana Craft and Bryson Livingston; 3 great-grandchildren, Kamika Guerra-Walker, Quintus Mah and Talysa Mah. Back home in Chile, he is survived by his youngest sister, Otilia Aguilar and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm, McInnis and Holloway – Deerfoot South Location, 12281 – 40th Street S.E., Calgary, Alberta. The family invites all family and friends to join them for a reception after the service where traditional Chilean appetizers and beverages will be served. Nació el 26 de julio de 1929 en Santiago, Chile a Alberto Soto y Blanca de las Mercedes San Martín y tenía 4 hermanos, Mario Soto San Martín, María Soto San Martin, Heraldo Soto San Martín y Otilia Aguilar. Durante 31 años en Canadá, vivió como un residente permanente hasta que se tomó la decisión de convertirse a un ciudadano canadiense en 2013. Este último paso fue uno de los momentos más felices y más orgullso de su vida. Alvaro disfrutaba de la vida más cuando estaba con su esposa de 67 años y su familia que adoraba. Dedicó su vida a cuidar de su esposa, como un bebé como ella siempre decía. Durante 26 años, la llevó al Salón del Reino de los Testigos de Jehová. A pesar de que no creía en ninguna religión, el era un gran creyente en Dios, o como él lo nombrava, Jehová. Cada reunión de la familia involucraba comidas chilenos, cumbia o música de tango y su vino chileno (Gato Negro). En Chile, Alvaro era un ávido ciclista y también le encantaba bailar. La mayoría no puede saber esto, pero en Canadá, Alvaro se convirtió en un gran fan de los Calgary Flames y siempre él disfrutó ver los partidos. Le sobreviven su amada esposa Patricia Soto; hijas, Blanca Guerra (Jorge Guerra), Marjorie Craft-Livingston (Chris Livingston); 8 nietos, Pamela Guerra (Ricky Bascombe), Patricia Mah (Kevin Mah), Jorge Guerra, Abbygale Craft, Tatiana Craft y Bryson Livingston; 3 bisnietos, Kamika Guerra-Walker, Quinto mAh y Talysa Mah. En Chile, le sobreviven su hermana más joven, Otilia Aguilar y muchos sobrinos.
