Obituary of Betty Joan WARNER

July 26, 1930 – London, England February 24, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta Betty Joan Warner (nee Simpson) of Calgary passed away suddenly at her home February 24, 2016 at the age of 85. Betty was born in London, England on July 26, 1930. After leaving school she trained and worked as a seamstress. In 1956 she met the love of her life, Alfred, and, after making her own wedding dress, they were married a year later. They began raising a family in the area of Edmonton, London before emigrating to Canada in 1965. Betty worked as a homemaker, seamstress, and clerk in Calgary before retiring from Eaton’s in 1993. Betty lived life to the fullest with her soulmate Alf, gardening, going on picnics, camping, bowling, and exploring their new country from coast to coast. Along with baking and sewing she had a passion for knitting and, together with many cardigans and sweaters, eventually created dozens of beautiful knitted dolls. These were enjoyed not only by her grandchildren but by many youngsters at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. In her later years she cherished her time with her great-grandchildren as well as her furry companion Buddy. Betty greatly enjoyed socializing with fellow ex-pat Brits of the British Pensioners Association. Her love and devotion to her family will be greatly missed by all. Betty will be remembered by her son Frank (Tracy) and her daughter Ann; her grandchildren, Michael, Brandi-Lee (Brad), and Nicole (Derrick); her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Emma, Kayla, and Zoey; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years Alfred; her parents, Francis and Alice Simpson; and her siblings, Constance, Kathleen, Francis, Stanley, and Walter, all of London, England. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people of Meals On Wheels, AHS Integrated Home Care, and We Care. We so appreciate your enabling Mom to live in her own home during her sometimes challenging sunset years. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
