Obituary of Alice Isabelle BICKELL

BICKELL, Alice Isabelle (nee Gillespie) September 19, 1927 – Calgary, Alberta February 5, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta On February 5th, our beloved mother passed peacefully. She will be greatly missed by Robert (Bob), her husband of 65 years; her four daughters Colleen (Peter) Nissen, Louise Page, Patricia (Mike) Dickson, and Sandy (Barry) Pihowich; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Calgary on the banks of the Bow River, Alice and Calgary grew up together. Her pride in the city was evident in her voluntary contributions to Fort Calgary where she was a docent for 15 years, the Foothills Orchid Society and the United Church Explorers for girls. Our mom valued family life and taught us to do the same. She took pride in maintaining a beautiful home and garden, making it a welcoming place for friends and family. She didn’t seek the limelight but was content to be in the background, cheering us on. “What you do for yourself dies with you: what you do for others will live forever”.
