Obituary of Donald Murdoch McDONALD

June 26, 1926 – Limerick, SK December 11, 2015 – Calgary, AB Devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, Bud died on December 11, 2015. Bud was born in Limerick, Saskatchewan, the son of Daniel and Grace McDonald. In 1950, following graduation from the University of Alberta, Bud commenced his 65-year career in the oil and gas industry in Calgary. Early in his career, Bud worked as a landman and was one of the first presidents of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen. He worked for several companies until 1969, when he struck out on his own as an independent operator, establishing and operating several private and public companies. He was active in the industry, serving as a director or president of many industry associations. Bud was a gentleman and a man of integrity. He was an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of working with him. In addition to his work in the oil industry, Bud proudly served as a director and president of the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured for 12 years. He was appreciated by board members, staff and clients for his business acumen, sense of humour, kindness and vision. He made life better for many survivors of brain injury and stroke. In 1949 Bud made his best decision when he married the love of his life, Dorothy Margach. They had a wonderful marriage for 66 years, had 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. All brought him joy and are his most important legacy. Papa, as he was known to his family, was kind, thoughtful, engaging and fun. He lived a life of purpose, loved his family and was loved by them. Bud is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; his son Dan (Frances); his daughter Laurie (John Gray); granddaughters Katie (Dan Beck) and Sara (Liam Hodgins); grandsons James and Alexander Gray; and great-grandsons Ethan and Finlay Beck. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Jean. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W.
