Condolences
Dear Elizabeth, Shirley Pat, Lois and families, I was very sadden to hear about your father’s passing. I have such fond memories of your family and your caring ways. I’m so sorry I was unable to attend the service as I was away at that time but my heartfelt sympathy is with all of you.
As Always, Sandra
Very sorry to hear about your dad. I never got to serve under him when he was RSM but man he could give me the gears when I was over at the house in Riverbend. He will be sorely missed by all.
RSM Cady was a tremendous soldier and role model for soldiers and officers alike. I had the honour to meet him early in my career and learned so much from him. His passing has touched us all, but no more than the family that was so close to him. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of such a great man.

Beverley and I send our condolences to Lois, Liz, Shirley and Patrick, as well as his granddaughters Sara and Emily and the other members of Earl’s family. We are sorry we won’t be able to be with you at the memorial service. Earl had a tough veneer but was a wonderful family man. Beverley and I had the pleasure of knowing Earl and Lou for many years in Germany, Gagetown and Calgary. When Earl moved to Cochrane then Edmonton we also had the pleasure of meeting Lois. We will miss Earl he was a great friend.
Earl and I served together at the Armoured school from 1984 to 1986. He was the epitome of an RSM. The type that one would wish to have working with you. He set a very high example and expected and demanded nothing but the best from all, no matter who they were.
An example of this occurred early upon his arrival at the school when we visited one of the classrooms. The lesson wasn’t going well, it was obvious that the instructor had not prepared himself. As we left the classroom Earl told him to stop by his office when he was finished. It was then that Earl learned there was a small storage room in the school full of lesson plans available for anyone to use. He quickly put an end to that by having them sent to the dump and burned. It didn’t take long for the message to get around the school that the RSM expected everyone to do their own work and properly prepare themselves for a class.
One tends to think on the lighter side on an occasion like this. In Earl’s case, one day a short while after he had moved into the Kipness Centre, Beverley and I went to visit him. As we walked into his room he was watching the news channel and they were reporting on the visit of the Pope to the US, he looked around and said, “Oh it’s you, I was expecting the Pope”.
Earl was a great soldier and family man who has left a big legacy for us all to follow.
We would like to pass on an Irish blessing for Earl:
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rains fall softly upon your fields
And, until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
Ian and Beverley Barnes
We were truly saddened to hear of Earl’s passing. We were so fortunate to have been able to visit him on our return to Calgary. Earl was my SSM in the early years and was such an inspiration to look up to. We served together for many years and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cady family at this very sad time. He will be remembered.
Our deepest condolences to the family. Earl was a great leader and soldier. Gone but not forgotten. RIP Earl
My sincerest condolences to the Cady family on the passing of this fine soldier and gentlemen. We first met in the early 60’s when Earl was a Corporal and I have had the good fortune to see him rise through the ranks and become the RSM of the Strathcona’s. To be chosen for that position displayed the value of his stock in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. We have lost a soldiers soldier and an example to all of professional dedication to his country, the Army and his regiment. He is now resting in the tank park with all his Corps comrades in arms. We will remember him.

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Earl Cady. I had the privilege of serving with him during the years that was Brigade RSM at CFB Calgary. He lead by example and was truly an accomplished leader who was respected throughout all ranks of the Brigade.
While being an extremely effective RSM, he also managed to temper his approach and be silently recognised as a real gentleman as well. He will long be remembered by so many of us whose lives and careers he influenced. With my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Many memories of your Father from living next to us in Oromocto the first time we came back from Germany, and giving us our first dog, that half Chiwawa named Rufus, to writing one of letters of recommendation when I applied to join the Army. We send our condolences and thoughts.

Elizabeth, Shirley, Patrick and Lois: please accept my heartfelt condolences. Earl was a wonderful man and a great soldier. As my SSM and RSM he always provided straight-from-the-heart advice and guidance, and his concern for his soldiers was always obvious. He was my mentor and my friend.
Aware of the progress of his illness I had been planning a trip to Edmonton later this month to spend some time with him once more. I am so sorry it couldn’t happen.

Our deepest condolences to the family for their loss. Earl was always an inspiration to me as a young soldier and a new Sr NCO. His professionalism was an example to all of us and he attained a level of respect seldom achieved by others. His affect on the Regiment will always be felt, even though he has passed on, we will continue to follow his high standards for many years. Be at peace and RIP RSM.

Earl Cady was a good man and a true leader. I was the Operations Warrant at the Armoured school and got to know him well. This man would never admit it of course but he had a big heart. A true friend.RIP EARL
My sincere condolences on the passing of Earl. I have such good memories of him
I first meet RSM Cady on my Centurian Gunnery portion of armoured officers phase training in Gagetown circa 1975. He taught HMG .50, .50 Ranging Gun and tank gunnery 105mm. The stuff he drilled into my head is still remembered to this day. He was a great RSM. I will miss the gruff old guy as he knew his stuff and taught well.
“Sir, Never strip against time, use the correct tools correctly.” Perseverance.
To Earl’s family: I first met Earl in Gagetown in 1966, when I was a brand new troop leader in the Royal Canadian Dragoons and he was assigned as my troop sergeant. We were slated to go to Germany in the fall of 1967 as part of the annual fly-over sqaudron to reinforce the Strathcona’s, but Earl was in a car accident and was unable to go. Over the intervening years, I met and served with this great person on several occasions.
Earl was a fantastic soldier. He was a straight-shooter and told things the way they were without sugar coating them. He was respected by all who had the privelege of working with him, whether superiors, subordinates or peers. For proof of this, you need look no further than the pinnacle of his career as RSM of the Strath’s, followed by 1 CMBG RSM. Individuals are not chosen lightly for these jobs.
Above all, Earl was a true gentleman. He will be missed by the entire armoured community.
My condolences to you all.
