Obituary of Shirley Marilyn WILSON

May 10, 1930 – Trochu, Alberta October 28, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Shirley Wilson beloved wife of the late Bill Wilson, passed away on October 28, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Shirley attended Normal School in Calgary. It was while teaching at Bay Coulee that she met the love of her life Bill Wilson. The two married on December 29, 1951 and together raised 5 girls on the family farm in Ghost Pine. Bill was killed in a car accident on September 26, 1960. Shirley and the girls remained on the farm until July 1965 when they moved to Calgary. Shirley then worked for a Urology practice until 1992 when she retired and moved to Milo. Shirley enjoyed retirement in Milo very much and often volunteered her time to help local community groups. Family was always first with Shirley, both immediate and extended. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2009, due to failing health she moved into the McKenzie Towne retirement home. In 2012, Shirley moved into the Eau Claire Care Residence and after a long battle with Dementia she passed away with her daughters by her side. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Bev Cunningham, Barb (Ian) Godkin, Patsy Byers, Debbie Smith and Colleen (Dale) Deitz; nine grandchildren, Kristy, Cooper, Jason, Tyler, Jesse, Jana, Billy, Jacki and Travis; eleven great-grandchildren; her brothers, Norman (Elaine) Hanna and Bernie (Marge) Hanna; and her sister-in-laws, Anna May ( Joe) Cardamone and Elma Wilson. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Bill Wilson; grandson, Ryan Deitz; son-in-law, Reed Peterson; parents, John and Edith Hanna; brother, Donnie Hanna; and brother-in-law, Tom Wilson. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through . In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shirley Wilson will be greatly accepted towards the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6A9, in memory of her grandson Ryan Deitz.
