Jim Ketchey beloved husband of Lois Ketchey of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the age of 87 years.
Jim was born on March 6, 1928 in Marquez, Texas. He obtained his education at Concord, Texas, and then attended Houston University for a career in engineering. After serving time in the US Marines, Jim accepted a position with a geophysical company in Canada. A short time later however, he was called to serve; this time in the US army where he received an honorable discharge in 1953. Jim returned to Canada and worked for Frontier Geophysical in Calgary for many years. In 1954, while working in Stettler, he met his wife, Lois and they were married in 1956. In 1965, Jim decided to move back to Texas and take a special course with Texas Instruments in Dallas. The next few years were spent working in West Texas. Being back in Texas was an opportunity to be able to spend more time with his parents and relatives who were very dear to him. Also, during his career, Jim spent a few years in Denver and the Dominican Republic in high-level positions. Jim returned to Canada, and in 1981, he was instrumental in forming “Capilano Geophysical Ltd.” and was president of the company until he retired in 1987. He was highly respected for his integrity and was considered a good friend by many in the industry. During retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and spending time at the country home in Texas.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lois of 59 years; sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Reba Ketchey; nephew, Michael (Jennette) Ketchey; nieces, Anita Apker, Starline Blalick, all from Texas.
