Obituary of John Lewis WHITLEY

April 8, 1921 – Lomond Alberta September 5, 2015 – Calgary Alberta Jack Whitley passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on September 5, 2015 at the age of 94 years with his two daughters at his side. Jack was born in Lomond Alberta. His family moved to Calgary where he continued his education. He joined the Calgary Tanks in 1942 and was part of The Canadian Forces in World War II and took part in the Dieppe Raid in France. He was taken prisoner and sent to POW camp. Jack returned to Calgary after the war and then joined the Canadian Air Force where he had a 25 year career. After retiring from the Canadian Air Force, Jack worked for Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) until his retirement in 1987. Jack kept active for several years working as a volunteer at The Military Museums here in Calgary. He also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, square dancing with his wife Jean and they enjoyed spending winters in Hawaii. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters; Jackie (Fern) Albert and Maxine (Williams) Gilmore and his brother Fred Whitley, his grandchildren Cynthia (Tim) Bennett, Wayne (Sharon) Albert, Kevin (Carrie) Williams. Great Grandpa will also be missed by his six great grandchildren; Sydney & Kylie, Donovan & Addison and Paige and Matthew. Jack was predeceased by his wife Jean in in May of 2004. As per our Dad’s request – there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through .
