I was saddened to read of Tom’s passing. He was a gentle, gracious individual who enriched the lives of those who knew him.

Tom and Sandy were active participants in the community and I was personally indebted to them for their work on my behalf in the political arena. They always gave and never asked

Calgary was a much richer place to live thanks to Tom McMeekin and citizens like him

Aunt Sandy, Hilary and Greg,

This is such a beautiful obituary – recounting so many of Uncle Tom’s accomplishments and contributions to so many others. I cry and pray with you from a distance, and I have a sneaking suspicion he’s up with Granny and Granddad having a grand ole’ party! I am so thankful that he took time a few years ago to leave a recording for my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary video. It means we get to re-watch the video to hear, in his own words, about the stormy winter night where he risked life and limb to get my Dad over to a house where he could see my Mom! My dad’s love and admiration for his older brother was clear to us as children, and continues to this moment. I believe that a person’s character can be determined by observing the people they are closest to, such as a spouse and children. As such, I feel that Uncle Tom’s beliefs, resolve, and attitude about life are also reflections of each of you. What a gift life gave him to have you as his family! With love, Trish
