Obituary of Michael Brandon CRAAYBEEK

January 15, 1978 – Oshawa, Ontario June 9, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Mike Craaybeek, beloved husband of Michelle Lynn Craaybeek (nee Demyen ) and father of Katherine and Gerrit of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the age of 37 years following a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Mike was born in Oshawa, Ontario and lived in several places before settling in Calgary, Alberta. Mike was a family man. He was an amazing husband and father that took an active roll in all aspects of his family’s life. Family was always extremely important to Mike and if you were close enough to be considered family ( Blood or not) he would be there for you no matter what you needed at the time. He was born a host and loved to cook for his friends and his family. His biggest indulgence was the “Occasional” beer with the boys ( Just one more ) and hitting up the casino. Mike had a great passion for his career and the Power line Industry. You could not go anywhere with Mike ( Including a Honeymoon), without getting a lesson on the power structures around. Mike was an active person and it was hard to get him to sit still. He always wanted to be doing something whether it be playing sports (hockey, baseball, golf), hiking, snowboarding or doing home renovation projects. He grew up playing hockey and was up for a game whenever the opportunity arose. He loved watching sports on TV and even got Michelle hooked on Sports Select so he could better enjoy the game (without the channel changed). Mike was an avid golfer and always strove to improve his game, (Which is understandable because who doesn’t need to improve their golf game after getting a hole in one…) Camping was one of Mike’s favorite summer activities. He could sit for hours whittling a poker stick and then prodding the camp fire to get it just right. And of course he would usually end the evening sleeping under the stars. Everything that Mike took on in life, he did with determination and integrity. His passion for life was contagious and you couldn’t help but have a great time when he was around. Mike will deeply missed but his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
