Obituary of Lourdes Maria MELO

June 29, 1931 -Sao Roque, Sao Miguel, Portugal

October 16, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Lourdes Maria Melo (nee Medeiros) of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

Lourdes was born in Sao Roque, Sao Miguel, Portugal on June 29, 1931.  She immigrated to Calgary in April 1969. She was most proud of raising her large family and later took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lourdes loved to cook and knit.

Lourdes is survived by  six sons and a daughter, Rui and Shannon Melo, Guy Melo, Maria and Michael McLaren, Emanuel Melo, Dinarte Melo, Jaime and Shirley Melo, and Justin Melo and Kayla Graham; thirteen grandchildren, Jessica and Marc Boucher, Christopher and Annissa Melo, Kaitlyn Ostare, Kayla Ostare, Brittany Ostare, Chelsea Camatta, Damien Camatta, Cian Melo, Riley Melo, Alec Melo, Stephanie and Ryan Erion, Naomi Melo, and Avery Melo; three great-grandchildren, Luca and Tristan Boucher, and Raven Melo.  She is also survived by two sisters, Maria Jose Barros and Conceicao Medeiros; a brother Ilidio Medeiros and numerous nieces and nephews.  Lourdes was predeceased by her husband Gil Melo and a sister Gloria Paiva.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home .
