Maria da Ascensao Ribeiro passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

Maria was born in Valdrez, Portugal and immigrated to Canada with her sister, Cesarina, in the late 1950’s. Maria worked as a seamstress for a number of bridal shops, including Brides 7th Avenue and Wedell’s Bridal Shop, before opening her own shop, Mena’s Bridal Boutique. She loved working in the bridal industry and had many satisfied brides who referred their friends. Maria was a loving wife and mother. She passed onto her daughter the importance of hard work, commitment, and resilience.

Maria leaves behind her loving daughter and son-in-law, Maria Filomena (Mena) Ribeiro Anderson and Allan James Anderson; her sister and brother-in-law, Cesarina du Carmo Ribeiro and José Augusto Ribeiro of Calgary; her nephew Rodrigo Alberto Ribeiro of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Portugal.

Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Camilo do Espirito Santo Ribeiro, on February 2, 2015.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
