First thoughts that come to my mind when thinking of Mom/Phyllis, is what a warm, welcoming and caring lady she is. Always happy to see us, greet us with a smile and a hug. Mom always did her best to put a little more sunshine into each moment together. When this is the signature trademark memory a person leaves behind, it’s a sign of a life well lived.
When Chris and I got married in 1997, I clearly remember when doing my “groom to brides parents speech” getting a bit teared up as I said how happy I was to have parents again as mine had passed many years prior. Phyllis and Ernie have been a wonderful family to become a part of. Both of them being wonderful gentle people who raised a family of very nice people as well. Looks like a trait which runs in the family :D
I truly admire how much of their free time together that Mom and Dad spent during all 4 seasons enjoying the Rocky Mountains. It seems particularly fitting that today, the day of moms service, we wake up to a picture perfect, blue sky winter wonderland of fresh poofy snow, a stunningly gorgeous cross country skiing day. Like many of the ones which she and Dad shared over the years. A nice visual to cherish.
This morning, the day of her service, just before I woke up, I had a very short dream in which Mom was showing me the delicious colorful meal simmering in the pan. Brightly colored veggies glistening with that perfectly steamed in the pan look to them with fresh garden herbs sprinkled on top. It smelled amazing as well. She was describing to me what was being cooked up and how much she was looking forward to having it for lunch. Considering that this sweet lady was not able to enjoy many tasty meals in her last days, it is nice to know that the food is good “Up there in heaven”
For me, this morning’s dream is also a gentle reminder that those who are no longer physically here are really not that far away at all and that our cherished memories keep them alive in our hearts.
Lotsa love Mom, Thank you for your loving influence in all of our lives.
My condolences to the Meirhofer family in the passing of Phyllis. I worked with Phyllis at the Scotia Bank Data Centre and we've been friends for many years. We attended the Scotia Bank Christmas luncheons every December with our spouses. Phyllis also went to lunch with the ladies from the Data Centre, the second Tuesday of every month. She will be missed greatly by all of us.
Barbara, Elmer and Janice MacDonald
Phyllis and Ernie opened their home and hearts to many of their childrens’ friends and neighbourhood kids. I have fond memories of my early years in Canada, spending many times with Lorraine at the house - precious memories - sharing their love for camping and joy of the outdoors. Camping at Yamanuska was one of my first experiences in the great Canadian outdoors with the whole Meierhofer family. Funny how I didn’t realize until now, that that is where my love for the outdoors probably all began. A blessing for sure!!
“It takes a village to raise a child”. Thank you!
Phyllis, your gentle loving soul will be sorely missed by many
