Obituary of Stuart Roderick James MACKAY

November 20, 2019 - High River, Alberta

Stuart MacKay passed away peacefully at his residence in High River, AB on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the age of 92 years.

Stuart was born in Hilton, MB on October 4, 1927 to a farming family and worked the farm during his early years.  They later sold the farm and started a transfer business hauling groceries from the city to rural Manitoba, along with many other products. Stuart married Erma in 1962 and they moved to Calgary where shortly thereafter, they moved into the house they would share for fifty-seven years.  They had two boys together, Cameron and Roy.  Stuart worked for Atco Industries for thirteen years and then worked for the School Board until his retirement in 1992.

Stuart loved children and got great enjoyment out of seeing them grow up, as he was always interested in their progress and what they were interested in.  He had a great sense of humour, which would sometimes surprise you because he was a private, quiet man.  Stuart was loved by everyone he knew.

Stuart is survived by his wife Erma; sons, Cameron and Roy; daughter Cheryl Fredell; son-in-law Ian Buchanan; grandchildren, Kelly and Doug Fredell, and Kevin, Liz, Adam and Lazhia Buchanan; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Maya Fredell-McNeil, Theodore Fredell, and Eve and Kensey Buchanan.

Stuart is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jim Matchett, who was Stuart’s life-long best friend; his nieces and nephew and their spouses, Deniece and Dale Rose, Melody and Don Barwick, and Troy Matchett and Stacy Eaton; and their children, Phillip and Brad Rose, Matthew, Ryan, and Chase Barwick, and Matthew and Elzabeth Eaton.

Stuart was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Mary MacKay and daughter Bonnie Buchanan.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
