Obituary of Elva Rae GAULT

March 23, 1930 – January 2, 2020

With her family at her side, Elva Rae Gault (Rae) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the age of 89 years after a long illness.

Rae was born on a cool but sunny Sunday, March 23, 1930, in Winnipeg, MB. She was the first child of Edison and Aurora George (née Johnson). She had a warm and family-oriented childhood with her younger siblings Linda, Beverley and Ronald. Rae grew up during the Depression and WWII. That experience gave her a great strength and resilience that defined her character. She will be most remembered for her devotion to her family, commitment to her patients, and her compassion for one and all.

Rae pursued and achieved her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (R.N.), and graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. The family moved to Saskatoon, SK, where she fell in love with a dashing young veteran and reservist, Russell Gault, who was also born in Winnipeg. They married in 1953 and their son, Kevin was born in 1959. They moved back to Winnipeg in 1963 and made a life in the west end. They welcomed daughter Kristen in 1966. The family moved to Calgary in 1975, and Rae returned to nursing in 1981. She practiced for many years, retiring at the age of seventy.

Rae is survived by her daughter Kristen Arnason (Larry), son Kevin Gault, grandchildren Brent Arnason and Jessica Murphy (Simon), beloved great-grandchild, Logan Murphy, sisters Linda McDonald (Brian) and Beverley Pettigrew (Al), and brother Ron George (Leni), all of Calgary, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rae was predeceased by her husband Russell in 1996.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday January 9, 2020, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing being held prior. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Graveside to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
