Obituary of Lucille HANSON

January 5, 1925 – February 4, 2020

Lucille passed away peacefully after celebrating 95 years of life. She is now with her beloved husband, Hymey and her parents, Sarah and Aaron Feingold.

Lucille was born in Jastreb, Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Canada with her parents when she was five years old; landing at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She spent her youth in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and then moved to Calgary where, in 1948, she married her husband of 30 years, Hymey Hanson. Lucille was the last of seven children, predeceased by Max Feingold, Jack Feingold,  Rose (Marvin) Schacter, Shirley (Joseph) Silver, Cecilia (Sidney) Guttman and Irene (Isadore) Fruman. Lucille worked by her husband’s side in Hanson Drugs (at the corner of 8th Avenue and 4th Street) and at Southwood Drugs (Elbow and Southland Drive) until they retired in 1975.

Lucille is survived by her three daughters, Annette and Candice Hanson, Dorothy Hanson and Sheldon Shagal; her two grandchildren, Benjamin and Davita Shagal; as well as her two sisters-in-law, Zelda Hanson and Sophie Feingold.

Lucille was very devoted to family and community. She enjoyed her winters in Palm Springs. She was an avid reader and followed politics closely. She was very active at the Shaarey Tzedec Synagogue and Hadassah-WIZO. As a woman entrepreneur, she built Hanson Square at 17th Avenue and 8th Street, which serves as a legacy for generations to come.

Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue, (1325 Glenmore Trail SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. with interment to follow at the Erlton Jewish Cemetery. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Lucille’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family would like to thank her four caregivers – Kara, Marilou, Alda and Melinda who took such loving care of her. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the doctors and medical staff at Unit 94 Rocky View Hospital.
