Reta VIGAR

Obituary of Reta Joyce VIGAR

February 27, 1926 – Portreeve, Saskatchewan
February 7, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Reta was born on the farm in Portreeve, Saskatchewan, and grew up in a big family during the dirty 30s.  In the late 40s she accompanied her sisters to Calgary and embarked on a secretarial career, working as a legal secretary for many years, retiring at age 55.

Reta was a talented bowler in her day; she enjoyed watching curling and baseball and attended both the Scottie Tournament of Hearts and Blue Jays games as a supporter.  She loved to travel and was always up for a road trip.  She frequented Hawaii, mostly Oahu, and ventured to Dawson City in the Yukon, Churchill, Manitoba, and many other fascinating places in Canada. She spent time in Panama, Australia, Alaska and also England, often traveling with her brother Bill.

Reta enjoyed the company of others and would often warn those willing to play a game of cards that “all friendship ceases here”.  She also enjoyed dancing and most Saturday nights could be found at a local dance.  She loved gardening and had a natural appreciation for all living things and spent many summer days out back in her garden tending to her vegetables and coaxing her flowers into bloom.

Reta is survived by her brother Bill, sister Elsie (Glen) Staroszik, and many nieces and nephews in Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Australia.  She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered.

She was predeceased by her parents Gerald and Mary; brother Victor; and sisters, Wynn, Maisie, Doris, and Stella.
