On behalf of Fred's friends from the Move and Mingle Bowness exercise and coffee class I extend our belated sympathies to his family. Fred was genial, amusing and knowledgeable. Coffee conversations with Fred were always enjoyable and interesting. Oh, he did like the cookies. Rest peacefully Fred !
This is David Boutillier; one of Pete's childhood friends. I fondly remember Fred's impressive, curated, collection of VHS recorded documentaries that were in the solarium/TV room between the main house and the garage... and how invariably open he was to having a quick, pleasant, always interesting conversation when I would be dropping by to meet Pete to go out skateboarding somewhere.
I remember the time Uncle Fred and I were walking up the street towards Oma's house and Laddie, the family dog came running towards us, so happy and excited to see us. I was somewhere around 10 I think. He was an old dog at this time and someone had had him shaved, he literally was shaved to the skin and we hadn't been told, so here this sweet, happy dog is running to us and Uncle Fred starts shewing him away, telling him to go home. Laddie looked so hurt and confused. We hadn't recognized Laddie and then it hit me, I started telling Uncle Fred it was Laddie, we just stared looking at what had been done to the poor little guy. We knelt down and showered him with hugs and laughing at how different he looked and realizing that he'd been shaved because he had so much hair.
