Condolences
Don DeTomasi was an inspiration to me and my University cohort. The quality of his undergraduate economics course was a major reason I enrolled in Environmental Design, where I benefitted from his mentorship. We both shared a love of old Porsches, although his 356 was superb - while mine was a rust bucket.
A life very well lived and an ongoing inspiration. My best wishes and condolences to the family.

I offer my condolences to all who knew and loved Don. We first crossed paths in 1968 when the U of C was newly minted, faculty were mostly young and the future was full of hope. I found in Don a kindred spirit whose particular mixture of commitment and irreverence matched mine. I was thankful then and remain so now. My life is richer because he was in it.
Don joined the executive suite one year after I moved into the OVP (Priority & Planning) We had many discussion on future needs of the University as we approached our Twenty fifth Anniversary As Don had his PhD in economics and one of my programs were Micro & Macro economics we had many discussions as they relation to Gov't funding.. After Don retired from his position he took more related issues requiring his vast knowledge. One that captured his imagination was the "Light up the World" Foundation of which he asked if I would assist them in the management area. As I was working 70 weeks I had to turn down the opportunity but thanked Don & the director of the program..
I feel I've lost a valued friend from a very select group in the Executive Suite. We played a lot of golf together as well as my annual fall classic. I also loved how he had restored his 1962 Bathtub Porsche convertible and drove it daily to work. His personality drew people to him and always made time for every one. I'll miss you D3 as he was referred to in notes from the Budget Committee meetings Allan Chambers Director Budgets in the OVP (Finance & Services) having moved from Priority & Planning after this group was disbanded with the retirement of the VP (P&P) .
Kaye, Don and David. It is with heavy heart that I learned of Don’s passing. There are so many fond memories of our families

What a wonderful man! We remember many good times at our Black Cloud parties with Don and Kaye! Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Kaye and the family! Cheers Don!
Our sympathy to Kaye and her family upon Don's passing. We met Don and Kaye during our many years at Blacklake Resort in California where we enjoyed many golf games and glasses of wine. He will be missed.
A gentle and thoughtful man is gone and we will always remember him. I will long remember conversations in Don and Kay's backyard as we waited for the next rare bird. (Frank) I will remember Don|'s gracious hospitality and delicious chili at the Christmas Bird Count dinners (Donna)
I agree with all the glowing tributes to Don and just want to add a couple of things. First, while I knew Don first through the Faculty of Environmental Design and then other organizations based at the University of Calgary, it was the long, warm friendship we shared that I will remember best and miss the most. There was lots of good conversation and laughter shared, and many a glass of wine too.
But also -- and this is what first came to mind when I learned that Don had died -- one of the things I admired most about Don was how he handled points of view that challenged his. I always found him to be open to hearing what others had to say and very thoughtful in his consideration of opposing views. Even in a purely social setting you could trust Don to take a serious comment seriously, and I loved that.
It's hard to take on board that he's gone.

Janet and I arrived at EVDS in 1973 and very quickly came to admire Don as a professor, person and friend. Over the years, Don and I shared hockey tickets, golf, sailing and, with Kaye, delightful social occasions. All who knew him will miss him greatly.
I served as his Associate Dean and admired his steady leadership and integrity. He was a gifted teacher and a thoughtful associate to everyone in the Faculty.
I don't think I ever had a better friend. Janet and I offer deep and sad condolences to Kaye and the rest of his family and friends.
I remember fondly our time with Don and Maye as part of the Four Nations Group. They were marvelous hosts during our time in Canada. I regret that we didn’t reconnect in later years. Shaf has been gone for 15 years so I can’t imagine how long since we last saw each other. My condolences Kaye. Your family will be a great support for you.
I was very sorry to hear about Don. I haven't seen him in years, but remember his helpfulness to me and our Faculty when we really needed his wisdom.
It is with much sadness that we received the news of Don's death. I had the privilege of having him as a colleague and mentor for 17 years, during my time at EVDS and the great pleasure of working closely with him to develop a plan for the future of the faculty. When we visited Don and Kaye at their home in Cochrane, he spent time teaching our small boys the art of fly fishing while we drank a glass (or two) of wine. He contributed much to EVDS and the university, lived life to the full and was a true gentleman. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
With our love and condolences,
