Condolences
I met Luis when our office union affiliated with the CWA and the first conference that I attended as a union rep. Luis and I hit it off immediately. He loved computer technology carrying his laptop of life wherever he went. I was a computer techie and Luis loved to learn the latest and greatest things he could do with his computer. Luis loved to show you pictures of his travels. Luis loved the social party. Luis loved to talk. Luis loved to share his opinion and once he had one, it was very hard to sway him. Luis visited our home in Waterloo many times over the years. A couple of them, driving his motor home and just having a party when he arrived. Luis loved his wine and whenever he'd visit, we go to the LCBO and grab a few varieties, cause Luis loved to sample the differences in wine. When he found one he loved, we'd head right back to the liquor store to buy a case of it to leave in my cold cellar, so he would always have that wine on future visits. Luis loved to make his friends paella. And he would make a social event out of it, like a 5 hour social, ending with the meal. And sangria. We were celebrating a friends 50th a few years back and Luis insisted on making his paella and sangria for the crowd. And Luis used a 5-gallon pail as his container to make sangria. I sure do have some great memories and social pictures of my friend Luis. I sure will miss him.
Although I had lost touch with Luis over the years I will never forget the first time I meant him, when he worked tirelessly to help organize our workplace. He was a force to be reckoned with. Rest in peace brother Luis.
Sad to hear about Luis’s passing. I worked with him for several years as he was my union official. I know that he was very dedicated to his beliefs and helping other people. I also got the impression (though he never detailed)that his belief in trade unions made his life very difficult in Spain while a young man. It’s a testimony to his character.
