Sonia Messenger (nee Bellinger) was born in Gloucester, England February 11, 1922. The youngest of four children, Sonia left school at the age of fourteen to work as a secretary. She lived with her parents In Worcester throughout World War II, where she survived many harrowing tales (bombings and possibly meeting a Japanese spy) and developed a resourcefulness, and ability to make the best of trying times. She would meet her husband, John (“BOB”) Messenger, toward the end of the war. They would be married for forty years and raise two children, John and Sandra. During her years in Canada Sonia took up painting, putting on variety shows at the local seniors’ club, and travelling much of the US and Canada. Sonia was a devoted mother, a lively grandmother and a good friend to many. She had a passion for life, dance, laughter, and family. She will be dearly missed.
