Condolences
I was lucky enough to have Stub and Avis in my life from a young age. When my parents moved from New Brunswick to Calgary, they became fast friends with my parents and my brother and I (and later our younger brother) saw them as our third set of Grandparents. I have countless memories of playing around in their condo, and going on amazing trips around Calgary. Memories of Stub and Avis are especially close during the holidays, our family made an annual visit to their place to see the downtown lights and play with all the amazing Christmas toys they had accumulated over the years. As we got older, they both stayed in touch and were still very present in our lives. I owe them both a lot for making my childhood a really pleasant one.
I was very happy to get the chance to introduce Stub to my wife last year, and give her the chance to put a face to all the stories I told her about him. He will be greatly missed.
'Stubby' was an important 'uncle-great-uncle' to my children and grandchildren. He enjoyed being with young, vital people and always had a story or adventure with which to entertain them. They loved his passion for antique cars, Heritage Park and the Stampede. He will be truly missed.

We will sure miss Eldon (Stubby)! I'll never forget touring his car collection as a kid, watching for him at the various parades wondering 'which car he'd bring this time' (often the '57 Chev) and visiting he and Avis in their condo, downtown. He was a positive and uplifting person who enjoyed life. He will sure be missed.

We met Stubby and Avis through the Alta. Pioneer Auto Club - and remember them exactly as described in your beautifully written tribute. You were fortunate to have him as a beloved uncle!
Our sincere condolences to the Stafford Family
Stub and Avis were always a pleasure to have coffee with and talk cars.

I met Stub and Avis through our mutual friends, Bill and Shirley Glass. We had many social gatherings and always enjoyed their company. Stub allowed me to drive his model T Ford, the only time I have done so. We both enjoyed old cars and always had something to discuss. It is unfortunate we have not been able to visit during this Covid-19 crisis, but will remember Stubby and Avis for a long, long time. He was a great guy, always humorous and most friendly.
Please accept my sincere condolences.
Love,
Dave Meriam.
Our condolences to Stubby's nieces and their families. He was one of the nicest men anyone could ever wish to meet and I'm sure that now he has been re-united with his beloved Avis, he and she will be getting together with my Mum and Dad (Molly and Alec Woodall). They had some wonderful times together in Canada and the States as well as in Europe. He was never far from my thoughts and he will be greatly missed.
On behalf of the Bill Bills family, we extend our sincere condolences to Stubby’s nieces & families.
Our grandparents, Orval & Alma Bills farmed close by, east of Crossfield, near the Stafford’s and our Dad & his brother Ted were childhood friends of Stubby’s, even though the Bills’ attended Elba School. There were many stories shared of their times together as neighbor children, and as they grew up, eventually becoming young farmers in the same area.
Our parents were married on December 10, 1947 & Stubby was one of their wedding ushers. As this was also Stubby’s 21st birthday, my sister recalls hearing stories of some antics that day which coincided with his “coming of age”!
I also recall seeing photos of Stubby & Uncle Ted from a motorcycle trip they took to California (1946 or 1947?)
Over the years, after our family moved from Crossfield, Stubby would regularly reach out around his birthday/their anniversary for a good phone visit. Even after our Dad passed in 2001, Mom & Stubby would enjoy lengthy phone catch up conversations.
We will fondly remember him for his ready smile, his good natured teasing & as a dear lifelong friend of our parents.
