Condolences
I had the luck to experience the GRIER family for six years at Mayerthorpe.
to this day I regard them as more than friends but as that rare breed of people who
truly opened their hearts and home only to inspire me with life values that I still live by today.
My condolences,
Leonard Squires
Dear Bob and Family,
Our sincerest sympathy is with you at this very difficult time.
Your dad was VERY influential in my career with the RCMP. In 1980, Al assisted in my recruitment while in Medicine Hat. He was a mentor and the epitome of what not only a Mountie but a great man should and needed to be. Al encouraged us to become a part of every community we were transferred into to which he was an exemplary example. We pray the love and comfort of your family brings you peace and time brings you healing as you journey through the hard days ahead.
Our deepest condolences and understanding,
Pat and Tanis Lockert
Very sad to learn of Al;s passing. A very good man and a fine police officer. I had the privilege of working with him at Mayerthorpe Det. in 1974, As a new constable, undergoing recruit field training Al was my mentor and role model. Al was a true leader, who led by example and I know that he inspired many others in this way. To Al's family and friends, please accept my deepest respect and condolences. Although Al has passed on, I believe that his legacy will be with us for many years to come.
It was with great sadness that I heard the news of Al's passing.
Al was a great friend and I will miss him greatly.
I know he was proud of you all.
Thanks for all the wonderful memories Al. We treasured our friendship with you as we treasured you.
You will always have a special place in our hearts.
Our love to the family

Dear Grier family,
We are so sorry to hear of Al's passing-our sincere condolences. We first met your Mom and Dad when I was transferred to Mayerthorpe in 1975.Coming out of Edmonton Ident section back to general policing required some re-learning,and Al was always so patient and guiding during that process. However ,on one occasion I needed a reprimand.
He did that in his usual quiet but effective manner. He did not need to raise his voice, and never did. I always remembered that incident and used it in my own supervisory role in the years that followed.Over the ensuing years we stayed in touch ,when they were in Medicine Hat ,and we in Taber. And then visited a few times in Calgary. But the memories of our days in Mayerthorpe are still the sharpest. He was a gentle man with a caring heart for family, friends, members and the public.
Al and Bea, such a great couple,-nothing but fond memories of them.

My sincere condolences to the family on the passing of Al Grier.... I first knew Al in Mayerthorpe then later in Calgary while he was watching Brenden play hockey.. He always was happy, a true gentleman.
My thoughts and prayers.
It is with a heavy heart that Diane and I learn of “Al’s” passing. We would be hard pressed to find a finer gentleman, friend, neighbour, co-worker and “boss”. Al was the S/Sgt / NCO i/c Mayerthorpe Detachment at a time when the world seemed to be a little kinder. I worked with/for Al both as a Constable on Detachment and also as a member of the Mayerthorpe Fire Brigade. I have numerous memories of working with Al and socializing with him and Bea and every one of those memories are positive and still bring a smile to my face. The world is a little smaller and certainly a little sadder today at least for us knowing that Al is no longer in it. To his surviving children and grandchildren we send our condolences.
We are so sorry we have lost a great RCMP Veteran who participated in so many activities. He always had a kind word for everyone. Our thoughts are with you. Ian & Shirley Brownlee
Tim and I are so very sorry for your loss. We loved him dearly and Tim thought the world of him. He was always such a gentleman with a kind soul. He was always trying to get awards or recognition for Tim for his participation with Calgary RCMP Veterans Association. He was such a dear person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He and your entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Tim and Ivy-Anne Mitchell
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Alvin Grier. He was a Member of our Association for over 30 years and was on the Executive as our Bulletin Editor for many years. Such an amazing life of service. What an incredible difference Al made to so many.
My condolences to Rob, Peggy, Sharon and Rick in this tough time. Alvin was loved by all staff and residents here at Prince of Peace. He had such a gentle and kind heart, always helping others, laughing with his friends and helping out with out newsletter. I will miss seeing him everyday! Sending my prayers to everyone whose lives were touched by him.
It is with great sadness that I accept the death of Alvin, we lived here at the Prince of Peace, sharing many activities including our very special happy hour, bridge, helping with the newsletter. He also printed all the birthday cards which some months was up to 30. There are about 180 people here and I never heard one person say a bad word about Alvin. My Condolences to Rob, Peg Sharon and Rick. Thank you for your kindness to me. Alvin was a very special man and will be greatly missed.
