Obituary of Karen Louise DUNCAN

January 14, 1964 – Burnaby, British Columbia December 8, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta On December 8, 2017, Karen beloved wife of Donald Stephen Duncan of Calgary, AB, passed quietly in her sleep at the age of 53 years. Karen was born in Vancouver and raised in Prince George. She met and married her first husband Kevin in Vancouver where her sons Eric and Kyle were born. They moved to Vancouver Island where she started her career in the hospitality industry as an accountant. In the late 1990s, she moved to Calgary where she continued her accounting career at Royal Host. It was at this time that Karen met and later married her beloved husband Steve. In the later stages of her career, she served as the Controller for M Private Residences and then owned and operated her own accounting and bookkeeping business. On every step of her life and career, Karen made deep and lasting friendships. Besides her loving husband Stephen, Karen is also survived by her sons, Eric Watson and Kyle Watson (Jeanette Guma); grandson Noah Watson and his mother Dione Lalonde; brother, Robert Dunn (Pearl), adopted parents, Susanne and Bob Anderson; adopted sister Dawn (Malcolm Butler) and previous husband Kevin Watson (Kim). Karen was predeceased by her parents Eric Christen and Marjorie Dunn (nee Halliday). To her extended family, friends and colleagues, please know that she loved and cared for you all. She carried all of you close to her ever generous and forgiving heart. If we do the same and follow her example, she will always be with us in spirit. Amazingly strong, independent and resilient, Karen faced a challenging battle with cancer for seven years. Her family thanks all the medical professionals, caregivers and friends that supported and cared for Karen over the last several years. Without their help, Karen wouldn’t have been able to travel, see her grandson grow, and live life as she wanted. For all those wishing to memorialize Karen, at her wish and that of the family there will not be a formal funeral. In its place, there will be a A Celebration of Karen’s Life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek Reception Centre, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 6, 2018 From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.We ask, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre online at https://albertacancer.ca/donate/cancer-centres.
