Obituary of Daniel David SHILLAM

May 8, 1951– Calgary, Alberta
April 27, 2021– Airdrie, Alberta

Dan (Papa) Shillam, beloved husband to Annette of Airdrie, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the age of 69 with Annette by his side. The Lord called Dan home into His glorious presence where he is now free of all pain and worry.

Dan was born in Calgary on May 8, 1951 to Ralph and Margaret Shillam, the only brother to 3 sisters. Dan appreciated a diverse professional career, starting in auto mechanics, moving to law enforcement, then managing a Shell Gas Service Station, and eventually Wingenback in industrial manufacturing. When Dan retired in 2006, he found his true calling as a professional “tinkerer”.

Dan tinkered in many pursuits such as wood working, cabin connoisseur, and miniature steam engines. When the weather was nice, you could often find him on his motorcycle going for a little ‘rip’, be it to get a coffee, visit his mom or just a ride. He also loved to spend time hanging out in the shop with his “people”, whether it was to just talk or work together on a project. But Dan's biggest passion was his love and commitment to his wife Annette of 34 years and his children and grandchildren. 

Those we love never truly leave us. Everlasting relationships forged through his sobriety and the love for Dan by his family will ensure his warm grin, dry humor and even-keeled demeanor will never be forgotten. We mourn our loss and miss him, but we are confident Dan is now home with his Lord and Saviour.

Dan is survived by his wife Annette, children Carrie (Ryan), Greg (Kim), Dan (Jennifer) and Kristi along with his six grandchildren; his mother, Margaret, sisters Ann, Susan, and Nancy along with their families as well as Annette’s family and many friends. Dan was predeceased by his father. 

A Private Funeral Service will be held, on Friday, May 14th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join Mr. Shillam’s service streamed live (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvVT5Lq4EPdzRpuzXyEtnJg/featured) on the day of the service. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider a donation to the Foothills Hospital Cardiac Unit.
