Obituary of Donald James WALTER

We are sad to announce that Don Walter has passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the age of 87 in Calgary, AB. He was the beloved husband of the late Freeda Walter (nee Horner).
Don was born to James Milton Walter and Mary Olive Walter (nee Angus) on July 24, 1933, in Kirkland Lake, ON, where he was also raised. He went to school to study Cartography in Ottawa, ON, where he met Freeda Horner and married on May 18, 1957, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Ottawa. Don was a Cartographer for the Government of Canada, Canadian Geological Survey. In 1967 they moved with their young family from Ottawa to Calgary, AB. Don loved to hunt and fish and spent many hours teaching his children and grandchildren his well-loved hobby. Following retirement, they travelled extensively, including a cruise to Alaska, trips to Mexico and overseas to the World Figure Skating Competition in Germany. He also delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Don is survived by his loving children, Douglas Walter (Carole) of Victoria, BC, Scott Walter (May) of Calgary, AB, and Sharon Culp (Marvin) of Calgary, AB; his loving grandchildren, India Walter, Liam Walter, Linette Walter, Tierra Walter, Stephanie Crawford, and Holly Culp; and his great-grandchildren, Avery Crawford and Blair Crawford. He is fondly remembered by his sister Patricia Chiasson(Rheal) of Fredericton, NB and his many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Colonel Belcher in Calgary for all their love and care. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
