Obituary of Howard ALLAN

June 8, 1940 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
May 31, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Howard Allan on Monday, May 31, 2021 in Calgary. Howard slowed down, albeit only slightly, in the last couple of years due to lung conditions that urged him to retire.

Howard was born the third of four children to Anne and Jacob Funk on June 8, 1940 in Winnipeg, MB.  He grew up rough and ready in that prairie city where he made dear, lifelong friends.  After school he became a model and salesman at Eatons.  Soon though, adventure beckoned and in 1969 he set off on his 10-speed bicycle to Vancouver.

In Vancouver, Howard's charisma made him a natural in sales and he soon found his niche in housewares. For a time, Howard tried his hand at family life but he was destined to settle in Calgary where he was truly at home. Here, he developed deep relationships and friendships, worked hard, and pursued the finer things in life. A man of strong passions, it is hard to say what he loved most: cooking and entertaining, reading, fishing in the mountains, or enjoying a pint in the pub where everyone knew his name. Of course, he unabashedly cheered on the Oilers, but they loved him anyway.

He was truly unforgettable. Dashingly handsome, witty and funny, fiercely independent and sometimes incorrigible everyone has a Howard story.  Larger than life, Howard had boundless energy and leaves us with a huge space that we can only fill with a rich legacy of stories. Let us toast a life well lived.

Howard leaves behind his three siblings, three daughters, three grandchildren, three exes and a myriad of wonderful friends.
