Obituary of Ronald John Day

October 31, 1934 – Roblin, Manitoba

September 13, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Day, beloved Dad, Papa, and GG, on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the age of 86 years, with his wife and daughters by his side.

Ron was born and raised in Roblin, MB. He moved to Penticton, BC when he was ten years old where he eventually met and married his wife, Audrey Warren. He was very proud of his forty year career at CP Rail from July 21, 1952 to June 1, 1992. Ron faced every challenge in life head on and always with courage. Ron would never miss an opportunity to socialize or debate with many family and friends. His interests were very diverse.  Ron loved curling, baseball, especially the Blue Jays, crib for money or a beer, wordsearches, playing pool, hockey, camping, tomato soup with crackers, happy hours, snow birding, and animals, especially horses, dogs, and orangutans. Ron was a man who simply loved life. His greatest accomplishment and proudest adventure was being a husband and a father.

Beside his loving wife Audrey of sixty-six years, Ron is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Carl Meek, Nancy and Paul Horsley, and Karen and Paul Pagenkopf.  He will be missed by his entire family, including his grandchildren, Sean (Karissa), Chris Meek, Scott (Amanda) Horsley, Megan (Sam) Smiley, Jenna (AJ) Gococo, Cameron (Jessica), Mitchell, Emily Rokosh; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Maisyn, Rowan, and Gemma; sisters, Janice (Hank) Raitt, and Gwen (Dave) Johnstone; and many nieces and nephews.

He will be loved and missed forever. See you in the playoffs!

A Private Family Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Ron, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
