I remember the first time meeting Robert as a customer of the place of business that I worked in Airdrie back in 1996. He seemed to be such a kind and pleasant man. He would come to our place of work regularly to have us to do work for him. I will never forget one time him coming to say hello and asking me how were things going, at the time work was slow and I was really struggling financially. I complained to him about how upset I was and will never forget his response to me, he told me he always trusted the Lord to meet his needs. well that hit me like a ton of bricks and I realized how self centered I was and I did not know that he was even a Christian until then. This started a wonderful relationship that I was so grateful to have had with Robert.
He then asked if I wanted to come to his home to meet his wonderful wife Marianna and his children, I told him that I could not take any extra trips into town as I had to budget my fuel use to the next payday. He replied by telling me he would put enough fuel in my car to get there and back to work the next Monday as this was a Saturday, I met him at the gas station and he wanted to pump the fuel, I told him ten dollars would be enough. I was shocked that he did not stop at ten dollars and fill my car up to the brim! My young daughter and I enjoyed chilling in the hot tub they had and meeting his family for the first time. This was the start of a very deep and wonderful friendship that lasted until his passing.
The Lord sent Robert into my life for such a time as this. He was always there for me throughout my walk with the Lord and I am so grateful for all the Godly wisdom, council and advice he offered. I could never have asked for a better mentor in my life and a closer friend and brother in Christ.
I want to follow in his footsteps in being that living sacrifice that Robert exemplified and demonstrated every time I was with him and hope to serve other younger men in that capacity also, until we meet again, your brother in Christ,
Darren
