It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Laurette (Loretta) Mary Manywounds at the age of 73 years old. As a devout Catholic, she went peacefully to join her beloved Cowboy Francis (Archie) along with our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ as her loved ones said the rosaries by her bedside.
Laurette was born near Cluny on the Siksika Nation reserve. She left at the age of seventeen to marry into Tsuu T’ina Nation where she made her home for over fifty four years with beloved husband Francis (Archie) where they raised their children with the western/rodeo lifestyle. In the early years, Laurette was raised by her parents Sam and Genevieve Cutter and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bigtobacco with the traditional Blackfoot spirituality, which included the Sundance and Horn society. She went on to attend St. Joseph Indian Residential School from 1951-1960 where she excelled in many sports, especially basketball and special skills in sewing. It was at Indian residential school she accepted our Lord and saviour into her life. Laurette worked at Father Lacombe Nursing home and William Roper Nursing home. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and took special favour to her great-grandchildren, especially little Shayne. Laurette was fiercely dedicated to her family and was an avid Calgary Flames fan. She cherished every moment she had with her family.
