Condolences
I only now learned about Layton's passing (Nov. 27, 2023) and I feel strongly about it. Layton was one of my most important mentors, when I entered Imperial in 1977 as a fresh-washed psychologist, thinking I knew something. Layton tactfully disabused me of that and taught me how everybody has ideas that are valuable, even if sometimes they are only pearls on a dungheap, as he called that. He was a role model for me, as were others in that work place where I learned so much, particularly from Layton, that helped support my career. Layton, I owe you, and am grateful for having known you.

Trish, John & Alison I wanted to extend my condolences and best wishes to you and your families on the loss of your father. Layton had a very full life, and we all celebrate that and our good fortune in having known him and been influenced by him. I know the many poeple with whom I've spoken since Layton's death all have wonderful memories of him that I'm sure will be shared with you. I can say personally that Layton was a major influence on me personally and that many of his thoughts, perspectives and phrases are still a part of me. I think this is also the case for others, so his impact will continue long after his passing, and that is something that most of us can only hope to achieve.
To Trish, Andrew, Sarah my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I will always remember Layton as a generous philanthropist, coach, and friend. His insights and willingness to dig in and 'do good' in all three roles were exemplary. Most of all, he was a lot of fun to spend time with, sharing a glass of wine 'and a bun'. Andrew and Sarah, you likely know how pleased Layton was that you chose Mount A ... it gave him great delight that you would share his alma mater. Layton was a one-of-a-kind and those of us who had the benefit of his time and thoughts are the richer for it.

Layton had an unbelievable impact on our team when he came to Resources. He coached and cajoled us to improve our person to person interactions and team management capabilities. He would not take "no" for an answer if he believed there was a better way.
His approach was polite and firm when he saw something that could be improved in execution. What a pleasure to work with.
Our condolences to Layton's family.

What a great coach Layton was. Lively, positive, relentless in a good way. He introduced me to having a flip chart handy and many work tools that I still use now in retirement - I disguise them for use with my family. Layton could be serious and light simultaneously and always sharply insightful. Quite a guy. : )
It was my sincere honour and pleasure to be the Layton Fisher Intern in Philanthropy for 2014-2015. That role was vital to shaping who I am and how I think, and I will be forever grateful to Layton for making that experience possible. Getting to meet and exchange with Layton was a joy, and I remember most of all what an excellent listener he was and how important he made you feel when you shared your thoughts and ideas. It is an honour to be even a small part of his legacy. I extend my deepest condolences to his family xo
Layton was a great mentor and friend. He made me laugh, think and care all at the same time. When I look at the others who have posted here I am reminded of the wonderful community Layton built around himself. Condolences to his family and friends. And he was an outsized influence and he had a great run!
My condolences to the Fisher family.
It is very sad for me to have lost contact with him over the last year or so. Together we had regularly solved all the world's problems many times over -- unfortunately without much noticeable effect. Knowing Layton, surely he will now be in a place where he have more influence than ever. I doubt he will "rest in peace" but will be the positive change agent he was in life.
Aila and I pass our condolences to Layton's family on his passing. He led a full and remarkable life. Anyone who met Layton would never forget him. He was a man of many talents. It was a privilege to know him and his family.
My sincere condolences to Layton's family. Layton was such a unique and incredible individual and I feel so fortunate to have spent time with him during Mount Allison events in Calgary. Layton will be fondly remembered by so many people.
I was honoured to be selected and hired to be a Layton Fisher Intern during the 2015-2016 year. I believe I was one of the last LFIPs that had the distinct pleasure and honour of sitting down with Layton over various meals at the Marshlands Inn, where he I never left without a sticky note with a vent diagram in my pocket, drawn by Layton. He made my time at Mount Allison immeasurably richer, and I've benefited greatly from his influence ever since our first chat. My sincere condolences for your loss! Xo
It was great good fortune that my time as President of Mount Allison University overlapped substantially with Layton’s return to New Brunswick in 2007. He was a generous and consequential mentor and sounding board for me, as I found my feet in the Mount Allison and Sackville communities. Layton was always genuinely interested in ongoing events and the exchange of ideas. It was both fun and a learning experience to have these extended discussions. I always appreciated his good humour and his forthrightness - he could be as tough-minded as he was kind. I missed him enormously when he exited Sackville. But he will live forever at Mount Allison, in the Internship and Speaker events which he established and in the relationships that he nurtured.
Dear Trish and family, so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. What a beautifully written tribute to him. It sounds like he was a wonderful person who will be so dearly missed by many. Hope you find comfort in each other and the wonderful memories he’s left behind. Thinking of you, Rosemary Seath

Layton left an imprint on my heart and in my head. I have on many occasions referred to the countless ideas/coaching tips he mentored. He was one of the best mentors I ever had the pleasure of working with and I can still see and hear is laugh as he proceeded to draw on his flip chart! My biggest sympathies to the family and please know that he was well loved in this world. I hope that Layton and Jean are now united and dancing in Heaven!
With sadness,
Jen Koury
Layton will forever be imprinted on my heart and in my head. I have, on countless occasions, referred back to coaching and mentoring he gave me throughout my career and life! Deepest sympathies to the family for your loss and I can only hope that he and Jean are now dancing together and enjoying each other once again.

A decade ago, Layton and I served on the Mount Allison Federated Alumni Board together. He was a great director -- full of ideas, opinions, workarounds, strong positions, kindness, and a sense of team. He was always fun to talk to because he either knew a lot about the subject, or would ask pertinent and insightful questions to learn. His dynamism and vigor were admirable. I particularly respected his decision to establish the Layton Fisher Internship in Philanthropy, and he inspired me to do something similar at our alma mater. Layton had vision and a determination to make things happen. He will long be remembered.
