Obituary of Ruth Marie Usselman

February 23, 1935 – Estevan, Saskatchewan

January 10, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Ruth Usselman of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the age of 86 years.

Ruth was born in Estevan, SK, on February 23, 1935. She moved to Calgary, AB with her family in her teen years. Ruth accomplished much through her life; she graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education degree, and two Education diplomas. She dedicated her life to the education of children, her children and grandsons and her church. She was involved in St. Bernard’s parish in Parkdale, she was also a member of the CWL and was a proud Bownesian; living her adult life in the community of Bowness. She spent many hours working in her garden and was especially proud of her daisies. Ruth worked at the Calgary Catholic School district as a teacher and continued working as a guest teacher after retiring into her 80’s. Ruth’s most memorable vacations were her trips to Hawaii with her mother Mary, brother Ted, son Dean, daughter Melveena, grandsons, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Melveena; two sons, Craig and Dean (Cheryl); and her two grandchildren, Jordan and Brett (Sarah). Ruth is also survived by her many nieces and nephews; as well as her extended family, and her many neighbours and friends from her Church and work. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Mary Walker, her brother Edward (Ted) and her daughter-in-law Debbie Broughton (Craig).

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church (711 – 37th Street N.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Bring a negative COVID test within 72 hours or proof of vaccination.
