Obituary of Fred Gardippie

January 22, 1956 - May 20, 2022

We are sad to announce the unexpected passing of our friend, Fred Gardippie, on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the age of 66 years.

Fred was born and raised in Southern Alberta and had a lifelong love of hockey and football especially the Calgary Flames and Stampeders, he never stopped cheering them on!

Fred spent many happy years at the VRRI, where he met his good friend Leslie and her family and with who he spent many happy holidays. Fred was also a part of the Excel Society where he made lifelong friends in the community.

Special thanks to the staff who shared Fred's journey and who went above and beyond to make Fred's life rich and full.

Apart from sports, Fred loved Tim Hortons, country music and board games and spent hours playing games, listening to Johnny Cash and drinking his double double. He took great delight in beating his friends at Sorry at every opportunity.

Fred loved the Calgary Stampede, pancake breakfasts and his cowboy hat and boots and looked forward to the grandstand show every year with his good friend Christine.

 It was through his love for double doubles and his shy charm that he met first Anne and then her daughter Vicki, who became like family and with whom he shared many adventures, love and laughter. 

With his endearing personality, Fred spent his life surrounded by many friends who cared deeply for him and will miss the twinkle in his eye. Never one to miss a birthday or celebration, the special occasions of our lives will never quite be the same without him, Rest In Peace Fred, and Go Stamps Go!

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Graveside Service to follow at Prairie Sky Cemetery. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Fred’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
