Obituary of Victoria Irene Wood

Vickie Wood of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the age of 67 years. 

Vickie was born in Toronto, ON, on November 12, 1954. She moved to Calgary, AB, in 1979.

Vickie graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a major in history. Later she went on to complete her Land Administration designation, taking evening classes at SAIT while working full time.

Family was the most important aspect of life to Vickie. She not only spent her days following her children around to activities (Brownies, Scouts, swimming, and gymnastics) she also spent many hours tracking down the family history to leave as a legacy. Genealogy soon became a passion for Vickie, occupying any free moment. Vickie also enjoyed knitting, and always had a project or two on the go. Vickie was most proud to be a mom to her children Stephanie and Cameron and an even prouder nana to her three granddaughters. She was quick to show off pictures of her family.

Vickie was soft-spoken, with a magnetic personality, her smile and giggle could light up the room. Vickie enjoyed socializing over a cup of tea or coffee with a sweet treat within reach, usually old-fashioned plain or chocolate Timbits.

Vickie will be dearly missed and survived by her daughter Stephanie (Derek) and her son Cameron. She had three beautiful granddaughters, Clara, Hazel, and Violet. Vickie is also survived by her sister Marianne as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vickie was predeceased by her parents, Joan (Windross) Moynes and James Collingwood Moynes. 
 

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Hospitality Centre at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Graveside Service on a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, ON. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Providence Care Centre where Vickie resided for the last 6 years. As well as the staff at South Health Campus who took care of Vickie in her final days.
