Georgia Politis

Obituary of Georgia Politis

July 12, 1940 – Athikia, Corinthias, Greece

July 14, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Georgia Politis (nee Sennis), our cherished mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the age of 82 years.

Georgia is survived by her two daughters, Nadya (Shawn) Judson of Calgary, AB and Natasha (Darryl) Gates of Squamish, BC and one grandchild Ryan Gates. Georgia is also survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Nickalew of Phoenix, AZ and Fotina (Chris) Papachristou of Chicago, IL, and her brother John Sennis of Peoria, AZ.

As a child in Greece, Georgia could be found with a soccer ball at her feet. She often challenged her brother and his friends to a game or two. She loved growing up in Greece and spoke so fondly of her family and friends there. It was at the age eighteen, alongside her father and brother, Georgia immigrated to Canada in November of 1958. She reunited with her sisters, Evelyn and Fotina, in Winnipeg where she began her new life in a new country. She trained and worked as a hairstylist and was very skilled at creating the perfect ‘beehive’. In February 1964 she married Constantine Politis and shortly thereafter moved to Rocky Mountain House, AB and then onto Calgary, AB where she raised her two daughters and lived for the next 50 years.

Georgia was known to be caring, soft-spoken and gentle. She dedicated her life to her faith and her time to helping others and working tirelessly in support of the Greek Community. She was an active member of the Philotochos Society for several decades and was truly happy working alongside her friends as they organized countless community events and supporting those less fortunate. Her positive impact is undoubtedly far reaching. Georgia had a generous and kind soul that will be missed by anyone who knew her.
