Obituary of William Donald Squires

April 7, 1933 – July 18, 2022

 

It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Squires announces his passing in Calgary, AB, on July 18, 2022, at the age of 89 years. Bill will be remembered as a loving and kind person. He faced many challenges, particularly in his final years, and met them with great courage and strength. He will be deeply missed.

 

Bill is survived by his loving wife Helen Squires (nee Ulrich), daughter Karen Squires, son Glen Squires, daughter Laurie (Joseph) Frantz, and two grandchildren, Jackson Frantz (Anna), and Cole Frantz. He is also survived by his brother George (Marlene) Squires, sister Dianne (Paul) Yard, and sister Patricia (Brian) Dawson.

 

Bill was born on April 7, 1933, in Kerrobert, SK, and his childhood was spent in Watrous, SK. He married his loving wife Helen Ulrich in Wilkie, SK, in 1955. They spent many happy years together. Bill enjoyed a long and distinguished career with the Royal Bank of Canada. He joined the bank in 1951 and ended his career as a Royal Bank Vice President, Special Loans, in Calgary, AB, and retired in 1992. Retirement gave Bill time to pursue some of his interests which included spending time with family, painting, golf, small carpentry projects, travel, hunting and fishing, and watching his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church (640 19 Ave NW, Calgary, AB), on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at 621 19 Ave NW, Calgary, AB. Condolences may be shared here.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Auburn Heights Retirement Residence, Comfort Keepers, and Units 58 at South Health Campus Hospital for the loving care given to Bill.
