Condolences
When I started with Imperial in 1977 one of the very first people to keep me out of trouble as a rookie engineer was Jack Betteridge. Jack taught me the ropes of who did what around the office and how to get things done the right and best way. And he kept us all from taking ourselves too seriously with his wonderful sense of humour, often delivered nearly deadpan with just a hint of a smile or eye twinkle. Jack had keen hearing and was usually the first to hear the approach of Molly the diehard Eskimo fan who would bring sausage rolls and coffee around the office every morning. Always a straight shooter. Always a willing mentor. A true gentle-man. I am very sorry that we have lost such a great guy and that he made a real difference in my life and career and I'm sure many others would say the same.
