Condolences
The Chapman and Thomson families met in about 1967. Bill and Klare were the first people (other than my parents) that held my brother and I after we were born. There are so very many funny stories of our years together, particularly because Bill was an accomplished prankster! It's hard to imagine a world without Bill and his booming voice and belly laugh, yet here we are. Even our superheroes grow old, it seems. We were blessed beyond measure to know you and the world is a little dimmer without you.
I first came to know Bill from an incident in the basement of the Police Headquarters. (Not going into detail), however looking back it was one of the funniest and memorable experiences in my career. Probably his as well) Bill was good humored, and I do not remember a time when he got mad. Always smiling, even with his cigar. Taught a lot of young police officers without saying a word RIP my friend, you deserve it. Condolences to his family, he was a big family lover way back when, and taught many a young member that trait.

I first met Bill in the late 70’s while working in E-5. Right away you new he was a good humored realist with compassion for everyone in his world. I next met hm in District 4 in the mid 80’s. By then he was a seasoned Sergeant who took me on as a newly promoted Sergeant to coach and mentor. Bill was always well measured in his approach to policing and I learned things from him that I used throughout my career. I look back on our time together as a high point. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.
Please accept my deepest condolences in Bill's passing !
I will always carry fond memories of working for and around Bill !
I was new on the job in 1981...he took me under his wing several times offering fatherly advice as only Bill did.
Bill was a real gem, and a character...I don't think I ever saw him without that big Ole Cigar in his mouth...lol
RIP Brother !
I was impressed how he was kind and helpful with new police officers.
I experienced that and forever remember that. I learned from Bill.
Thank Bill.
RIP Bill
Bill was my Sgt. in old "A" district. A very straight shooter and cigar smoking good man. To many stories to be told, and some that should never be repeated(all in good fun) R.I.P. Bill. you were one of the Good Guys
Bill and I go way back, when he became President of the Calgary Police Association I was the senior member of the Board at the time and worked with Bill on the finalization of a contract - the conversations between us were priceless! Bill had a heart of gold and was a very practical person, we worked as coppers together for a short time in the 70's and was always front and foremost in his assessments of any call that we attended. Some of our excursions into the world of Association politics especially in Alberta were full of mischief, but at the same time Bill was always thinking of the members he represented. Our paths haven't crossed since we both retired but I will remember him for his love of his extended family - who came first! RIP mate.
